Fitness is a life-long journey! Enjoy the ride!

Dr. Saul Shaye has been interested in physical fitness most of his life. We're going to be adding to this site from time to time, but want to share at present some pictures of his journey with explanations.

Physical fitness starts early in life with just being active and can progress into sports and gradually as we get older, activities that we enjoy that keep us active and can be as simple as walking, swimming, dancing or as my mom used to say, at age 92, "shuffling her feet going around the house each day," to more complicated activities such as body building, hiking, tennis, etc. Whatever you do, find something you enjoy so you will be able to keep it up for a long, long time.

In the above pictures, at age 7, Dr. Shaye lived in Brooklyn, New York in an inner city ghetto area called Brownsville. He dreamt of being stronger and bigger to deal with the fear of the environment.

At age 10, he found an axel in the street, dragged it home and started working out with it. At age 13, his dad got tired of the axel and bought him his first weight set and bench press. Results were very slow till about age 23 at which point, Dr. Shaye was competing and placing in weight lifting contests with a competition best bench press of 360 lbs.

In 1975, Dr. Shaye, re-injured his low back doing a 500 lb dead lift. After 3 months recovery time, he decided to switch to body building which required a stricter diet. After two years working with the body-building he won his first novice contest in Shreveport, LA, (1977), and then in the southern USA physique contest in 1977 was the runner-up for best abdominals and finally, in June 1979, placed 4th in the Mr. Louisiana Open Physique Contest at which time he thanked God and retired from competition.

Now he just does it for fun and for health.
